I'm Becoming a Supernatural Addict!!

So basically this blog is all in the title.

It has recently dawned on me to realise just how fascinated in recent years I have become with the supernatural, in particular surrounding works of fiction that involve beings like werewolves and vampires.

However, I do not think I am alone in this. Since the groundbreaking success of the Twilight novels by Stephanie Meyer, (which for a long time I begrudged not to read until finally giving in) it seems to be that there has become a great fascination amongst many with these supernatural beings, which has corresponded in many more books, television programmes, films and other forms of media, featuring these types of characters.

It was only yesterday when I worked out that I now watch (now don't be shocked at this), Being Human, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf and the Twilight films, that I realised that I too had been sucked in by this scary supernatural addiction/disease swooping through the world. My Twitter name even involves it for pity's sake (WerewolfWhite).

Now don't get me wrong I love all of these shows and it was my choice to watch them but does anyone else out there feel the same way. Is there just too many vampires, werewolves and other scary beings out there right now?

I would love to hear your thoughts and just for the fun of it here is my favourite theme tune in the whole world, True Blood, just to make this blog a bit more colourful. Or should I say dark......Mwah Ha Ha....Ok. Il shut up now. Enjoy :)

Toast 2010

On the 30th December 2010, the premiere of the TV movie Toast premiered on BBC One in the UK....and I have to say for me it was a simply wonderful hour and a half of teleivison to sit through. :)

Based on the autiobiographical memoirs of chef, Nigel Slater, famed for 'Nigel Slater's Simple Supper's' and directed by S.J. Clarkson, the narrative traces Nigel's childhood life through dealing with the loss of his mother at a young age, his father's re-marriage to the cleaner Mrs Potter, issues of his sexuality and loss of friends whilst throughout following his increasing interest with food.

For me, the story was brilliant and it seems hard to believe that something quite like this actually happened as it was so good.

The film stars Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs Potter and Freddie Highmore as Older Nigel, both well known for their mother and son role in the recent adaption of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' in 2005. They both portrayed their roles brilliantly as would be expected, but for me the film also brought us the audience a first glimpse at the great talent of Oscar Kennedy who portrays Young Nigel for most of the film. His acting, for me was spot on, portraying emotion and comedy at different times brilliant and definately an upcoming talent to watch I say.

Overall, this was a genuine highlight of the 2010 Christmas period and was wonderfully filmed, edited, acted and portrayed and I urge anyone to watch and not want Toast or Lemon Meringue by the end of it.

And if that hasn't wet your appetite here is the trailer to make you want to watch:

Finally SPOILER ALERT - A wonderful touch as well to have the real Nigel Slater at the end to play his boss :)

Ugly Betty 2006-2010

Well hello my at the moment 2 followers....which I think is the same person :P

So it's nearly Christmas, which means a lot of changes to the television schedule with many programmes starting or finishing over this period, and one of these sadly for me finished last night after 4 great years on our screens...

Hopefully these titles will remind you of the wonderful show for many years to come:

Yes this is Ugly Betty, produced by ABC in America and shown here in the UK on Channel 4 and E4 between 2006 and well last night on the 22/12/2010 here in England.

I have to say that Ugly Betty is probably one of my favourite television programmes ever made as it was filled with great actors, great characters, great sets and of course great storylines...which for me and others I know, should have allowed it to remain for at least 1 more series.

However slowly but surely both here and in the USA the show did lose viewers, in mine and many others opinion due to some scheduling problems. Although this did not mean that production left it to just run out its course but instead put all of its might into producing a finale- 'Hello Goodbye', which would touch any true fan to laugh and also cry at the same time.

Even though I won't spoil it for those who have not watched, the fact that storylines were tied up so well, old characters returned and that by the end we the audience had come full circle with Betty now in her dream job and with a completely outstanding new look, made the end seem also just like a new beginning.

America Ferrera and all her co-stars shall be missed but theres hope that with the recent Digital Spy article, stating that the 'dramedy has seen a year-on-year audience increase while being screened on E4" this brings some hope to a film that has been rumoured to hopefully occur.

In all I shall miss you Ugly Betty for bringing such a wonderful light hearted but also dramatic show, that we have very little of left today on our screens. I finish with what I think is one of the perfect finales to a show I have ever seen :) Enjoy:

Merry Christmas :D

Thankyou ABC, E4 and Youtubers: mrduckbears and studiopie

TV

So for a second post I have to talk about probably my passion of media .... which is TV ... or television as it is also called :)

I generally watch to much but at the end of the day Im doing a media degree so its research......right?

Being a Brit, I used to believe as a child that ours was the best and no other country could produce anything as good .... except maybe The Simpsons from America, which I loved and am still partial to when Im bored and it's on.

However, in 2005, a new show was advertised on Channel 4, which kept catching my attention, due to its constant promotion during another great favourite of mine, that being UK Big Brother (2000-2010).

Even to this day I remember the night well during the final week of Big Brother 6, when between Craigs eviction on the Wednesday (yes I do still remember who and there name) a small American pilot was shown .........LOST!!!(2005-2010)

From then on I was hooked and American TV just made television watching a whole new level for me.
Since then I have not looked back and through some findings on my own, plus a little help from friends, I have indulged in Ugly Betty (2006-2010), Pushing Daisies (2007-2009), True Blood (2008-), Glee (2009-), The Vampire Diaries (2009-), Cougar Town (2009-), Flashforward (2009-2010), Heroes (2006-2010) ... plus probably many more :P

But what this shows is that not only are certain TV programmes great, but that television is an expression, a medium that does not always get the most credit but should be something to be studied and researched over.

The people who believe it is a waste of time to do this surely something which gets such a large audience, reaction and debate, surely must have some kind of influence right?

Well it certainly did for me and gives reason for what is to come in later blogs.

Hopefully Il get a good grasp over the Christmas Holidays and get a few reviews out there in this next week.

So thanks for reading and Il catch you again :)

Hello ..... And Welcome

So Hello, Welcome, Bonjour, Guten Morgen .... :)

This is hopefully the first post of many on all things Media.

To start I should explain that I am a Media Communications student, currently in my second year at University where I hope, that this will eventually give me a good degree and that one day I will be able to work in a sector of the media industry which I cannot wait for.

The whole inspiration of setting this up was in fact down to a recent print media lecture.
Thanks to two great media workers who have covered a wide range of professions, their encouragement to try and gain a following, gave me the want, along with some of my other peers, to create our own personal blogs for our own likes and dislikes.

So here's mine and as the title suggests pretty much everything media related will be covered.

From my opinions on recent media news to reviews of new products, everything I shall try and cover here, whilst also focussing on my passion which is film and tv :)

So hopefully Il work out how to use this, set up my twitter account on here to, and I hope anyone out there will like this and join me for the ride :)
